Beveled edge microscope slides with dimensions 26mm x 76mm are widely used for haematology, microbiology, and pathology applications. These beveled edge microscope slides are ideal for performing blood smears. The single frosted ends allow for easy marking with pencil, mark pens and conventional labelling system. The smooth Beveled ends allow for easy and safe operations.

A beveled edge microscope slide has edges and corners that are angled, typically at a 45-degree angle, rather than straight. This design makes the slides easier to handle, prevents finger cuts, and is particularly useful for blood smear preparation, where the beveled edge provides a secure grip.

The slides are manufactured from soda-lime glass with the so called float process and are particularly suitable for medical laboratories.

The frosted on the front of the slide. Frosted ends can be manufactured by grinding or etching.

The 45° corners grounded slides are always rounded because of the special grinding. This is as well applied for slides with bevelled edges. The clipped or 45° rounded edges minimize the risk of cuts and scrapes while handling the slides.

Key Features and Benefits of Beveled Edge Slides:

Rounded Edges:The beveling rounds the sharp corners, making them safer and easier to handle.

Secure Grip: The angled edges provide a better grip during blood smear preparation, ensuring a smooth and controlled smearing process.

Blood Smear Preparation: Beveled edges are specifically designed for creating blood smears, providing the necessary angle and grip for precise smearing techniques.

Safety: The rounded edges minimize the risk of cuts and scrapes while handling the slides.

Automated Processing: Some beveled edge slides are also designed with clipped corners, making them ideal for use in automated processing systems.

Why should a microscope slide be held by its edges?

Always hold your glass microscope slides and cover slips by their edges. Touching other parts may cause fingerprints on their surfaces which negatively affect image quality.

What are the two types of microscope slides?

There are two main types of microscope slides – Flat Slides and Concave (Well/Depression) Slides. Well (Concave) Slides have an indent to hold liquids. This means that a Cover Slip, which is a smaller section of glass normally used with Flat Slides, isn't needed when using Concave Slides.
What should you always remember when handling microscope slides?

Your microscope slide should be prepared with a coverslip over the sample to protect the objective lenses if they touch the slide. Do not touch the glass part of the lenses with your fingers. Use only special lens paper to clean the lenses. Always keep your microscope covered when not in use.

What is the difference between a permanent slide and a temporary slide?

In all cases the material is mounted on a glass slide prior to its examination. Temporary preparations are examined and then discarded, usually on the same day; whereas permanent preparations may remain in good condition for years.

What is the meaning of microscope slide the factory catalogue numbers 7101?

The 7101 category codes or numbers refer to the finish on the slide. Slides can have various finishes on the edges and can be plain, single frosted or double frosted. The category code differentiates between the finish on the edges and the frostings. Below indicates the category codes:

  • 7101    Plain, ground edges90°/45°
  • 7102    Plain, unground edges90°/45°
  • 7103    Singe concave, ground edges45°
  • 7104    Double concaves, ground edges45°
  • 7105    Single frosted end, ground edges90°/45°
  • 7105-1Single frosted end, unground edges90°
  • 7105-A Single frosted end, Beveled edges45°
  • 7106    Frosted both ends on one side, ground edges90°
  • 7107    Double frosted ends, ground edges 90°/45°
  • 7107-1Double frosted ends, unground edges 90°
  • 7108    Frosted both ends on both sides, ground edges90°
  • 7109    Colour frosted end, ground edge90°/45°
  • 7110    Fully frosted on one side, ground edges 90°
