OMSONS Specific Gravity Bottles (Pycnometers), Class A, are high-precision instruments used to determine the density or specific gravity of liquids. These bottles follow the Gay-Lussac design and are calibrated "to contain" at a specific temperature (typically 27°C) with the highest level of accuracy.

Technical Specifications
  • Material: High-quality Borosilicate 3.3 glass, providing exceptional thermal shock resistance and chemical durability.
  • Accuracy Class: Class A, ensuring the tightest tolerance limits for analytical measurements.
  • Compliance: Manufactured in accordance with DIN/ISO 3507 international standards.
  • Stopper: Equipped with a precision-ground interchangeable stopper (often PTFE/Teflon or glass) that features a central capillary to allow excess liquid to escape, ensuring a precise volume.
  • Certification: Supplied with a Batch Certificate documenting the mean volume and standard deviation of the production lot. Versions with Individual Work Certificates or NABL (ISO/IEC 17025) certificates are also available for higher traceability.

Capacity and Tolerance (Class A)

Capacity (ml)  Tolerance (± ml) Stopper Size
10 ml 0.3 ml 10/15
25 ml 0.8 ml 10/15
50 ml 1.0 ml 10/15
100 ml 3.0 ml 10/15

Applications
  • Density Determination: Measuring the precise density of oils, fuels, and chemical reagents.
  • Quality Control: Verifying the purity of liquid raw materials in pharmaceutical and food industries.
  • Standard Preparation: Used as a reference tool for calibrating other density-measuring devices like hydrometers.

Primary Applications

  • Purity Verification: Since every pure liquid has a unique, known density at a specific temperature, these bottles are used to check if a chemical or solvent is pure or has been diluted/contaminated.
  • Pharmaceutical Compounding: Used to ensure that liquid medications and syrups meet the exact density requirements specified in pharmacopoeias (USP/BP).
  • Essential Oil & Fragrance Testing: Determining the specific gravity of high-value oils to detect "bulking" with cheaper synthetic additives.
  • Fuel & Oil Analysis: Crucial in petrochemical labs for measuring the density of lubricants, biofuels, and petroleum products, which affects how they flow and burn.
  • Beverage Quality Control: Measuring the sugar content (Brix) or alcohol concentration in wines and spirits by comparing the density of the sample to water.
  • Paint and Coating Industry: Ensuring the "solids content" of paints and varnishes is consistent across different production batches.

Why the "Batch Certificate" is Essential:
In an ISO 17025 accredited lab or during a GLP audit, you cannot simply claim your bottle holds 50ml. The Batch Certificate provides the documented proof of the flask's volume and the margin of error (standard deviation) calculated during manufacturing. This allows scientists to calculate the "uncertainty" in their final density result.

Typical Workflow
  1. Weigh the empty dry bottle with its stopper.
  2. Fill with the liquid and insert the capillary stopper (excess liquid escapes through the hole).
  3. Weigh again.
  4. Calculate the density by dividing the mass of the liquid by the certified volume of the bottle.
