The Highland Portable Precision Balance brings lab-grade precision to a compact, portable body. Sturdy ABS construction and a removable draft shield mean it copes with lab research, fieldwork, and manufacturing quality control alike, and HandiCal internal calibration means you're rarely without a reliable reference weight on hand.

Precision that travels well

Calibration and protection

HandiCal calibrates the balance internally using a built-in reference mass, so you don't need external weights for day-to-day checks (though external calibration is still supported if your lab needs a certified process). ShockProtect guards the load cell against accidental overload and shock damage.

Display and connectivity

The backlit LCD uses 18mm-high digits for a clear readout, and RS-232 and USB interfaces let you send readings straight to a computer or printer. Beyond standard weighing, the Highland also handles parts counting, percent weighing, and accumulation.

Power

A 12VDC adapter is included, and an internal rechargeable battery gives you up to 24 hours of cordless use away from a plug point.

Where you'll actually use it

  • Laboratory research and quality control, including small-sample formulation and compounding
  • Field science and fieldwork, thanks to the internal rechargeable battery
  • Manufacturing and industrial quality control
  • Classrooms and teaching labs needing more precision than a basic compact balance offers

Choosing your capacity

The Highland range spans eight capacities, from the HCB123 (120g at 0.001g readability) for very small, sensitive samples, up to the HCB3001 (3000g at 0.1g readability) for bulkier work. In between: the HCB153 (150g, 0.005g), HCB302 (300g, 0.01g), HCB602H and HCB602 (600g, at 0.01g and 0.02g respectively), HCB1002 (1000g, 0.01g), and HCB1502 (1500g, 0.05g). Choose the finest readability your heaviest regular sample can tolerate, since finer readability models are more sensitive to draughts and vibration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the readability spec actually mean for my lab work?

Readability is the smallest change in weight the display can show, not the same thing as accuracy. The HCB123 reads down to 0.001g, so it suits small-sample work like compounding or formulation. For bulkier, less sensitive material, the 1000g, 1500g or 3000g models are more practical and less fussy about draughts or vibration.

Does this balance need external calibration, or can I do it myself?

Both. Highland balances use Adam's HandiCal system for quick internal manual calibration with a built-in reference weight, and they also support formal external calibration. Day-to-day, internal calibration is usually enough; if your lab needs a certified traceable calibration certificate, you'd still send it out periodically.

How is it powered, and can I use it away from a plug point?

It ships with a 12VDC adapter but also has a built-in rechargeable battery rated for up to 24 hours. Charge it up and it'll run untethered on the bench or out in the field.

Does the Highland do anything besides basic weighing?

Yes. Beyond straightforward gram readings, it supports parts counting, percent weighing, and accumulation modes, which are useful for quality control, formulation, and inventory tasks without needing a separate counting scale.
