A classic physics demonstration tool designed to show how mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy, specifically demonstrating the difference between Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) generation.

Core Functionality

The device illustrates the fundamental principles of electromagnetic induction discovered by Michael Faraday. It generates current as a wire coil (armature) rotates within a magnetic field provided by a permanent magnet.
  • AC Generation: Uses slip rings and brushes to maintain a continuous, reversing connection that produces alternating current.
  • DC Generation: Uses a split-ring commutator that reverses the polarity every 180 degrees, keeping the current flow unidirectional.
Operating Instructions
  1. Setup: Place the dynamo on a flat surface. Ensure the rubber belt is properly seated between the large driving wheel and the smaller dynamo pulley.
  2. Selection: Use the onboard switch to select either AC or DC mode.
  3. Operation: Rotate the hand crank steadily. The step-up ratio will cause the armature to spin rapidly, inducing voltage.
  4. Observation: Watch the onboard bulb or LED illuminate. For further study, connect a voltmeter to the output sockets to observe the steady (DC) vs. fluctuating (AC) readings
