These sterile plastic petri dishes are single-use polystyrene dishes for growing bacteria, fungi and other microbes. Every dish is EO (ethylene oxide) sterilised. You can buy the 90 x 15mm size in packs of 10 or 500, or the larger 150 x 15mm size in packs of 10.

A petri dish, also called a petri plate or culture dish, is a shallow, clear dish with a lid. These are the non-vented type. The lid sits flush on the base with no air-gap bumps, so it forms a near-airtight seal that cuts down evaporation, keeps moisture in and keeps contamination out during long incubations.

• Sizes: 90mm diameter x 15mm high, or 150mm x 15mm
• Material: crystal-grade polystyrene (PS)
• Clarity: clear enough to count colonies and look at them under a microscope without lifting the lid
• Heat: stable up to roughly 55°C. Polystyrene melts at sterilising temperatures, so these can't be autoclaved and are strictly single use
• Surface: uncoated and hydrophobic, not tissue-culture treated, so they suit bacteria and fungi rather than mammalian cells
• Agar volume: the 90mm dish takes 15 to 25ml of culture medium comfortably
• Sterility: valid up to the date printed on the pack
• Packing: inner sleeves of 10 dishes act as the sterile barrier until you open them
• Traceability: the sterilisation run is linked to the lot number on the outer carton and inner pack label, so labs can trace QC certificates
