The Round Bottom Boiling Flasks featuring a single vertical neck with a precision ground glass socket. These are the standard "building blocks" for modular laboratory assemblies like distillation, reflux, and chemical synthesis.Round-bottom flasks with Joint connector (also called Boiling Flasks) are types of flasks having spherical bottoms used in laboratory. They are made of heat-resistant borosilicate glass. One neck with a rimmed opening at the tip. Available from 250ml to 5 000ml with  other capacity available on request.

Because of the round bottom, cork rings are needed to keep the round bottom flasks upright. When in use, round-bottom flasks are commonly held at the neck by clamps on a stand.

Technical Specifications
  • Material: High-purity Borosilicate 3.3 glass, offering a low coefficient of thermal expansion and high resistance to chemical attack.
  • Compliance: Fully complies with IS 1381 (Part I) and ISO 1773 international standards for laboratory boiling flasks.
  • Design:
    • Spherical Bottom: Ensures uniform heating of the contents, which is critical for boiling and distillation.
    • Ground Glass Socket: A tapered female joint (e.g., 24/29 or 19/26) that allows for a vacuum-tight, greaseable connection to condensers and other glassware.
  • Thermal Properties:
    • Max Working Temp: Up to 450°C.
    • Thermal Shock Resistance: Excellent, allowing it to withstand rapid temperature changes during heating and cooling.
Primary Applications
  • Distillation: This is the most common use. The flask acts as the "pot" where the liquid mixture is heated. As the liquid boils, vapors rise up through the single neck into a condenser.
  • Refluxing: Used to heat a reaction for a long period without losing the solvent. A condenser is attached to the neck; as the solvent boils, it turns into vapor, is cooled by the condenser, and drips back into the flask.
  • Chemical Synthesis: Ideal for multi-step chemical reactions. The rounded shape allows for efficient stirring with a magnetic stir bar or an overhead stirrer.
  • Rotary Evaporation: Large-capacity round bottom flasks are used in "rotovaps" to remove solvents from a sample quickly and gently under reduced pressure.
  • Heating under Vacuum: Because of their spherical design, they distribute stress evenly, making them much safer than flat-bottom flasks for experiments involving high vacuum.
Why the Spherical Shape?
  1. Uniform Heating: Since there are no sharp corners, heat from a mantle or oil bath is distributed evenly throughout the liquid, preventing "hot spots" that could cause the sample to decompose.
  2. Structural Strength: A sphere is the strongest shape for resisting external pressure, which is why these flasks are the only ones used for vacuum-based distillation.

Key Equipment Pairing
To use these flasks effectively, they are typically paired with:
  • Heating Mantles: Specifically shaped to hug the curved bottom of the flask.
  • Cork Rings: Used to keep the flask upright on a flat lab bench, as the round bottom cannot stand on its own.
  • Keck Clips: Plastic or metal clips used to secure the ground glass joint of the flask to a condenser or adapter.
