Nichrome Bare Wire

Bare Nicrome Wire available in variouse diameters. The thickness of a wire is often given as a Standard Wire Gauge, or SWG. Nichrome is a non-magnetic alloy of nickel and chromium. Nichrome is widely used in heating elements. It is wound in wire coils to a certain electrical resistance, and current passed through to produce heat. It's makeup is 0.5% Ni, 15% Cr, 4% Al, Balance Fe. Maximum operating temperature is 1150°C.

Experiments can be conducted to show the difference between the copper and nichrome wires of the same SWG.

Various SWG bare wire is often used in electricity experiments to show the effect of the diameter of the wire on the resistance in the circuit. The most basic explanation on why wire gauge matters is because the thinner a wire is (higher gauge) the more resistance there will be to the flow of current. More resistance means more energy loss, which means weaker/less reliable detections.

  • Single-core cable shape
  • Nickel-chrome alloy conductor material
  • Maximum operating temperature of +1150°C
