Coil Condensers with PTFE Screw Thread
A Spiral Condenser (Graham condenser) is used to cool and condense a gas back to a liquid, often as part of the process of chemical distillation. The piece consists of a coiled glass tube through which the gas travels. The coil is surrounded by a jacket of water that helps to cool the gas. The main advantages of a spiral heat exchanger are its high overall heat transfer coefficient, compact size for a given heat exchange area.
Recommended for use with low viscosity distillation processes such as alcohol with best results when assembled in an vertical orientation.
Design: Features a central spiral glass coil inside an outer jacket. The large surface area of the coil optimizes heat exchange.
Joints: Precision-ground interchangeable ground glass joints ensure a vacuum-tight fit.
- Coolant Flow: Always connect the water inlet to the lower glass connector and the outlet to the upper connector. This ensures the jacket is completely filled with coolant, maximizing efficiency.
- Orientation: For best results in low-viscosity processes like alcohol distillation, use the condenser in a vertical orientation.
- Safety: While these are autoclavable, ensure all tubing is removed and joints are not seized before sterilization.
