The Drip Tip
 
This is the pointed, angled end of the glass tube inside the lower joint.
  • Function: It uses surface tension to force liquid to accumulate at a single point and drop off.
  • Purpose: It ensures that the distillate drops directly into the center of the receiving flask. Without it, liquid would "creep" along the ground glass joint, causing the joint to seize (freeze) or leak chemicals into the environment.
