What is a plastic stirring rod?
A plastic stirring rod is a solid polypropylene rod with rounded ends, used to mix a solution by hand in exactly the same way as a glass rod. The difference is the material: polypropylene resists hydrofluoric acid and other reagents that would etch, cloud, or dissolve glass.
SmartLabs stocks plastic stirring rods for any lab where glass is the wrong choice, whether that is HF work, teaching younger students who need unbreakable equipment, or fieldwork where a dropped rod needs to survive. They clean and reuse the same way as glass, just without the risk of shattering.
