A rotary evaporator splash head adapter, also known as a bump adapter, prevents the sample from splashing or being carried over from the boiling flask into the condenser during evaporation. It also protects the sample from contamination and oxidation by containing the solvent within the evaporation flask.

Because liquid is kept out of the condenser, the recovered solvent remains pure. It also helps to avoid potential damage to the condenser and improve its longevity.
