This human skeleton with spinal nerves is approximately life size at 170 cm, for studying the structure and function of the bones and the spinal nerves of the human body. It is anchored to a wheeled base, so it can be rotated and studied easily.

The model is detailed, with a different coloration of the costal cartilage, and gives an overview of all of the bones in the human body as well as the spinal nerves (cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacral).

Bones

  • Axial skeleton: the skull, vertebral column (cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral and coccygeal vertebrae), ribs and sternum
  • Appendicular skeleton: the bones of the limbs (arms, legs, hands and feet) and the pectoral and pelvic girdles

Spinal nerves

  • Cervical nerves: the eight pairs (C1-C8) originate from the cervical region of the spinal cord and innervate the neck and upper limbs
  • Thoracic nerves: the twelve pairs (T1-T12) innervate the chest and upper back
  • Lumbar nerves: the five pairs (L1-L5) innervate the lower back and abdominal wall
  • Sacral nerves: the five pairs (S1-S5) and the coccygeal nerve innervate the pelvis, buttocks and lower limbs

Costal cartilage

The costal cartilages are the bars of hyaline cartilage that connect the anterior ends of the ribs to the sternum. The different coloration differentiates them from the bone structure of the ribs and sternum.
