Ammeter DC Coil

This DC ammeter is an EDM80-style analogue moving coil meter for measuring direct current in school and university electricity practicals. Choose a range of 0 to 1A, 0 to 2A, 0 to 5A or 0 to 10A.

Inside is a permanent magnet and a spring-controlled moving coil on jewelled bearings with hard, polished pivots, so the needle moves smoothly and settles steadily. Typical accuracy is 2.5% of full scale deflection (FSD). The 60mm scale has a fine knife-edge pointer and an anti-parallax mirror, which helps learners take a precise reading by lining the pointer up with its reflection.

The meter sits in a sturdy ABS plastic desk stand with a clear acrylic front cover. Connections are colour-coded 4mm safety terminals that take stackable banana plugs or bare wire. Because it's a passive moving coil meter, the current in the circuit drives it, so it needs no batteries or external power.
