The Ancient Egypt flip chart is a spiral-bound set of 10 illustrated charts that comes with a teacher guide and reproducible worksheets. Each chart covers one theme using photographs of real artefacts, tomb paintings and monuments, with short labelled captions.
The ten charts are:
- Life in ancient Egypt: farming on the fertile banks of the Nile, harvesting grain, bread making, fishing, boats, music, homes and amulets
- People of ancient Egypt: farmers, scribes, the back of Tutankhamun's throne, and the music and dancing at public festivals
- Pharaohs: Tutankhamun's burial mask, the painted bust of Queen Nefertiti, statues of Djoser, Khufu, Menkaure, Tuthmosis I and Ramses II, and a timeline of the dynasties
- Pyramids: Djoser's step pyramid at Saqqara, the bent pyramid at Dashur, the pyramids and sphinx at Giza, and a cut-away of the Great Pyramid of Khufu
- Temples: a cut-away temple diagram, the Avenue of Rams at Karnak, Hatshepsut's funerary temple, Abu Simbel, obelisks and Tutankhamun's golden shrine
- Gods and goddesses: Amun-Re, Anubis, Horus, Thoth, Osiris, Isis and Maat, plus the scarab as a symbol of the sun god
- Journey to the next life: mummies, canopic jars, ushabti figures, Tutankhamun's burial chamber and gold coffin, and a funeral procession
- Fashion: jewellery, cosmetics, mirrors and headdresses, including a scarab pectoral from Tutankhamun's tomb
- Writing: hieroglyphics, papyrus, how scribes were trained, and the Rosetta Stone, with a timeline running to its discovery in 1799
- Map of the Nile: Upper and Lower Egypt with the main sites marked, from Giza and Saqqara down to Luxor, Abu Simbel and the Aswan Dam
Ancient Egypt is the ancient African society learners study in Grade 5 History, and the charts line up with that work: life along the Nile, who did what in society, religion, the pyramids and writing. The pages flip over, so one chart can stay up for the week while the class works through that part of the topic.
