The CB Compact Balance is a battery-powered digital scale for anyone who needs a trustworthy reading without the bulk of a full lab balance. It moves easily from bench to bench in a classroom, packs into a kit bag for fieldwork, and works just as well on a kitchen or jewellery counter. A grade 304 stainless steel pan and sealed, one-piece housing mean spills and dust wipe straight off.

Precise, portable weighing for every bench

Display and controls

The backlit LCD gives a clear readout in any lighting, and the keypad needs no training to operate. A zero-tracking function resets the display between uses, and a low-battery indicator gives you warning before the batteries actually run out.

Power

Two AA batteries come included, so the CB is ready to weigh as soon as you unpack it. A 6VDC adapter is available separately if you'd rather run it on mains power at a fixed station.

Where you'll actually use it

Accurate to 0.1g on the 500g and 1000g models, or 1g on the 3000g model, the CB covers more ground than a typical lab scale:

  • Classrooms and teaching labs, for measuring compounds, portioning samples or running group demonstrations
  • Food service and kitchens, where a standard kitchen scale isn't precise enough
  • Jewellery and gemstones, where small high-value items need a stainless, easy-to-clean surface
  • Light industrial and medical dispensing, where a full analytical balance would be overkill

Choosing your capacity

The CB comes in three capacities so you can match the balance to what you'll actually weigh: 500g at 0.1g readability, 1000g at 0.1g readability, or 3000g at 1g readability. If you're unsure, choose based on the heaviest single item you expect to weigh regularly, not your total sample volume.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the CB501, CB1001, and CB3000?

They're the same balance in three capacities: the CB501 weighs up to 500g at 0.1g readability, the CB1001 up to 1000g at 0.1g, and the CB3000 up to 3000g at 1g readability. Pick based on the heaviest single item you'll typically weigh.

Does the CB balance come with a power adapter?

No, the adapter is optional and sold separately (6VDC 200mA). The balance ships running on 2 x AA batteries, which are included.

How do I calibrate the CB balance?

It uses external calibration, meaning you calibrate it yourself with a known calibration weight (500g for the CB501, 1kg for the CB1001) via the keypad. No internal motorised calibration is fitted on this model.

Is the CB balance precise enough for weighing jewellery or gemstones?

Yes, for general use. The 0.1g readability on the CB501 and CB1001 is precise enough for small, high-value items like gemstones and jewellery pieces. If you need milligram-level precision, you'd want an analytical balance instead, but for everyday jewellery and gemstone work the CB range is accurate enough.
