Allihn condensers, also called bulb condensers, are used for laboratory-scale refluxing and provide a greater surface area than similar Liebig condensers. These have screw thread connectors.

They are suitable for refluxes. Unless held vertically, they are not as favoured for distillations, because a substance can condense and be trapped in the side of the bulbs.

The 400mm condenser has a 50/42 male cone. This fits exactly into the 50/42 socket of the 400 mL extractor body of the Soxhlet Extractor Apparatus (OM-3400-07).
