Wind copper wire round a nail, run current through it, and the nail picks up paper clips. Cut the current and it drops them. A magnet with an off switch is a genuinely surprising thing the first time a learner builds one.
What is in the pack
- Enamelled copper wire and a steel nail
- Switch
- Red LED and resistor
- 9V battery clip and 4 x AA battery case
- Paper clips and an assembly diagram guide
Covers Electrical Systems and Control in CAPS Technology, Grades 7 to 9. One thing to warn your learner about: the copper wire is enamelled, so the tip has to be filed clean before it will make contact. The pack says so, and it is the most common reason these do not work first time.
Note: this is a component pack. The model, backing board, batteries, tools and glue are not included.
