An Erlenmeyer flask, also known as a conical flask or a titration flask, is a type of laboratory flask which features a flat bottom, a conical body, and a cylindrical neck. Erlenmeyer flasks with sockets are designed for modular laboratory setups where leak-free, airtight connections are required.

They're made from Borosilicate 3.3 glass, offering strong thermal shock resistance and chemical durability, and manufactured in accordance with ISO 4797 (for jointed flasks) and IS 1381. The conical body has a flat base and a precision ground-glass socket for secure assembly with condensers, addition funnels or distillation heads, commonly in 14/23, 19/26 or 24/29 socket sizes to match standard laboratory glassware.

The iconic conical shape was engineered by Emil Erlenmeyer in 1860 to solve several common laboratory problems. The wide base and tapered sides let you mix liquids vigorously by hand without splashing, which is why they're the standard choice for titrations. The narrow neck acts as a choke point, slowing the loss of solvent compared to a wide-mouth beaker, and when heating liquids, the sloped sides help vapours condense and trickle back into the solution, keeping the volume more stable. The matte marking spot (sometimes called the "frosted" or "ceramic" patch) is designed to be written on with a lead pencil or lab marker, making it easy to track samples during an experiment.
