This is a Natural Sciences and Technology kit for Grades 4 to 7, packed for a class working in 10 groups. It comes in labelled plastic tubs inside a lockable metal cupboard, so all the apparatus is stored in one place.

There are 10 identical learner kits, one per group. The cupboard also holds a set of teacher chemistry apparatus, electricity and magnetism components, technology materials, and the chemicals and consumables. An activity guide, a periodic chart, a model solar system and a world globe are included.

Each of the 10 learner kits

Test tube rack, 4 test tubes (16 x 150mm), test tube brush, test tube holder, glass rod, 50ml beaker, 10ml plastic measuring cylinder, small burner bottle, bipod stand, wire gauze, 75mm plastic funnel, pack of 10 filter papers, 60mm plastic petri dish, 50mm watch glass, 2 plastic pipettes, 2 plastic spoons, a one-hole stopper and a solid stopper, 70mm hand lens and a spirit thermometer reading -10 to 110°C. Each kit packs into its own utility tub.

Electricity and magnetism

10 bulbs (1.5V) with holders, 10 buzzers, 10 switches and a toggle switch, 20 AA cells with holders, 5 red and 5 green LEDs, 40 insulated leads (300mm), 20 crocodile clip leads and 10m of insulated wire. For magnetism there are 10 bar magnets, a horseshoe magnet, 2 compasses, 250g of iron filings and 30 iron nails.

Teacher chemistry apparatus

6-hole rack with 6 test tubes (24 x 150mm), three 250ml beakers and a 500ml beaker, two 100ml measuring cylinders, a 75mm evaporating basin, a 250ml spirit lamp, a large tripod with ceramic-centre gauze, and a retort stand with bosshead and clamp. The distillation set is a 250ml distillation flask, a 300mm Liebig condenser, stoppers and tubing. You also get a spirit thermometer, 2 glass droppers, a delivery tube, a box of 100 filter papers (12.5cm), a stainless steel spatula, 3 sieves, 3 plant pots with saucers, a torch and a mirror.

Technology materials

Ten 2.5ml and twenty 10ml syringes with 10m of 3mm tubing, a pack of 30 gears, a pack of 30 pulleys in 3 sizes, 80 link strips, 40 wheels, 25 wooden dowels, 25 wood strips, 20 rigid plastic rods, ice cream sticks, nuts, bolts and washers, project and corrugated cardboard, wood glue, cello tape and masking tape, string, fishing line, paper fasteners, 10 rulers, 10 tape measures, balloons, straws, plasticine, candles and scissors.

Chemicals and consumables

Methylated spirits (500ml), iodine solution (100ml), copper sulphate (100g), potassium permanganate (100g), glucose, starch, sugar, fine and rough salt, yeast, plaster of Paris, red and blue litmus paper, food colouring, steel wool, a wax block, Vaseline, and radish and bean seeds.

The cupboard locks, which keeps the chemicals and the methylated spirits away from learners between lessons.
