The JOANLAB precision electronic balance (3000g x 0.1g) combines high capacity with fine accuracy for lab formulations and bulk weighing.

This JOANLAB precision electronic balance is a benchtop digital scale built for stable, reliable measurements in educational, industrial and clinical labs. With a 3000g maximum capacity and 0.1g readability, it lets researchers and students weigh large sample batches, bulk chemicals or field specimens consistently.

Key Features and Specifications

  • Capacity and readability: A 3000g limit with 0.1g resolution covers both bulk and fairly fine measurements.
  • Stainless steel pan: A solid, impact-resistant stainless steel platform that resists chemical etching, won't rust and wipes clean easily.
  • Backlit LCD display: A large, bright digital readout that's easy to read under classroom or factory lighting.
  • Multi-function modes:
    • Tare (zero tracking): Deducts the weight of beakers, weigh boats or containers instantly.
    • Piece counting: Counts bulk parts (such as beads, pills or small hardware) by their individual weight.
    • Unit conversion: Switches between grams (g), carats (ct), ounces (oz) and pounds (lb).
  • Stabilisation: A built-in bubble level and adjustable levelling feet help cancel out vibration and uneven benches.
  • Dual power: Runs on the universal AC adapter or its built-in rechargeable battery, so it works for field testing or on a mobile lab trolley.

Recommended Applications

  • Making up large chemical batches, mixing agricultural seed batches and preparing microbiological agar media.
  • Measuring masses for high school and university physics experiments on mass and velocity.
  • Quality control checks, counting mechanical parts and monitoring soil or moisture sample weights.

Standard Box Contents

The JOANLAB precision electronic balance (3000g x 0.1g) comes with:

  • Balance base unit: The main scale housing with its LCD display, adjustable levelling feet and internal rechargeable battery.
  • Stainless steel weighing pan: A removable, corrosion-resistant platform that clips securely onto the load cell.
  • Universal AC power adapter: For running the balance from mains power and recharging the battery.
  • Removable draft shield ring: A circular plastic or metal collar that blocks low-level air currents around the pan.
  • Instruction manual: Covers setup, calibration, error codes and technical specifications.

Below is a step-by-step external calibration guide for the JOANLAB 3000g x 0.1g precision electronic balance, followed by the draft shield options that suit it.

Part 1: External Calibration Guide (3000g x 0.1g)

For accurate readings, calibrate a precision balance when you first set it up, whenever you move it and after big temperature changes.

Before You Calibrate

  1. Level the balance: Check the built-in bubble level and turn the adjustable feet until the bubble sits in the centre of the ring.
  2. Check the environment: Put the scale on a solid, vibration-free bench, away from open windows, air conditioner drafts and magnetic fields.
  3. Warm up: Plug in the AC adapter and switch the balance on. Let it idle for 15 to 30 minutes so the electronics can stabilise.
  4. Prepare the weight: Clean a 2000g or 3000g F1/M1 class calibration weight so it's free of dust and oils. Never touch calibration weights with bare hands; use clean gloves or tweezers.

Calibration Steps

  1. Clear the pan: Make sure the stainless steel pan is empty and clean.
  2. Zero the balance: Press the TARE (or ZERO) key. The screen must read exactly 0.0g.
  3. Enter calibration mode: Press and hold the CAL key (on some JOANLAB models you may need to hold TARE or MODE instead) until the display changes from 0.0g to a flashing CAL. Release the button.
  4. Select the weight value: The screen flashes the calibration mass it needs, usually 2000.0g or 3000.0g. (If your model allows it, tap MODE to cycle to the mass you have.)
  5. Load the weight: Gently place the calibration weight in the centre of the pan.
  6. Wait for it to settle: The display flashes while it reads the load cell. Don't touch or breathe near the scale.
  7. Finish: Once it's stable, the display stops flashing, shows PASS or END, and returns to the normal weighing screen showing the mass.
  8. Check: Remove the weight. The balance should return to 0.0g. Put the weight back to confirm it reads within ±0.1g.

Part 2: Draft Shield Options

Because 0.1g scales are sensitive, air currents in a classroom or lab can unsettle the sensor and make the last digit drift up and down.

Depending on your room, you can pair the JOANLAB balance with one of these:

  • Removable ring shield (stainless steel or plastic): A low, open-top collar that sits around the pan. It blocks sideways air currents while leaving the top open for quick spooning of chemicals.
  • Three-door clear acrylic draft box: A tall enclosure with sliding left, right and top doors. It gives the most protection from ceiling fans and air conditioning while you can still see everything.
  • Economy anti-draft hood: A light, one-piece moulded plastic cover that goes over the whole unit during storage or transport to keep dust out.
