Safety Rings (also known as Bumpers, Riders, or Guard Rings) are essential protective accessories for glass measuring cylinders. They are typically made of flexible, high-density polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) and are designed to slide onto the neck of the cylinder. 
 
Position of ring can be adjusted to aviod contact with the top of a receiver when liquid is poured from the cylinder. Should a ring become loose after prolonged use, soak it briefly in hot water (90°C) to return it to its original shape
 
 
Primary Functions
  • Impact Protection: The ring acts as a shock absorber. If the cylinder is accidentally knocked over, the ring hits the bench first, preventing the glass neck from making contact and shattering.
  • Anti-Roll: The hexagonal or raised-rib design of the ring prevents the cylinder from rolling across the lab bench if it ends up on its side.
  • Spill Mitigation: By preventing the glass from breaking during a tip-over, it helps contain potentially hazardous or expensive chemicals within the vessel. 
 
Technical Features
  • Material: Chemically resistant plastic (usually yellow or blue) that can withstand common lab solvents.
  • Fit: They are sized to fit specific cylinder capacities (e.g., a ring for a 100ml cylinder will not fit a 1000ml one).
  • Positioning: For maximum protection, the ring should be placed near the top of the cylinder, just below the pouring spout. 
 
Sizing Guide
In the OMSONS range and general lab supply, these are categorized by the cylinder size they fit: 
  • Small: For 10ml and 25ml cylinders.
  • Medium: For 50ml and 100ml cylinders.
  • Large: For 250ml, 500ml, and 1000ml cylinders.
