Short-path distillation is a distillation technique that involves the distillate traveling a short distance, often only a few centimeters, and is normally done at reduced pressure.

A short path distillation system works by adding your solution into a boiling flask and heating it up to reach the boiling point of your target compound.

The use of a jacketed system is particularly important when working with high-boiling-point materials or materials that are prone to thermal degradation. By carefully controlling the temperature of the flask, it is possible to achieve a more precise separation of the desired compounds and reduce the risk of damaging the material.

Jacketed short path distillation apparatuses are commonly used in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and cannabis industries for the extraction and purification of essential oils, terpenes, and other complex mixtures.

Advantages of using a vacuum when performing a distillation?

Protects temperature-sensitive compounds from degradation. Quicker process due to less time to heat to boiling point, thus product is in contact with heat for much shorter time. Uses less energy compared to traditional distillation at atmospheric pressure.

Jointed Compatibility: Equipped with a B joints, making it easy to connect with other laboratory apparatus with a similar joint size

Condenser Joint with Vacuum: The condenser joint connector is jacketed with a vacuum tube connection and a drip-tip for better decanting into the cow adapter.

Drip-Tip: The drip-tip allows for better decanting into the cow adapter. The drip-tip can easily be aligned with the selected collection vessel.

Vacuum: Vacuum is used in shorth path distillation to substantially decrease the boiling temperature by reducing the operating pressure.

Jacket: The jacket column allows for improved heating and cooling control during the distillation process.

Vigreux: Vigreux indentations improve efficiency.

Grinded joints: Provides higher ultimate vacuum level and works with vacuum grease to create an even better vacuum tight seal.

Heavy wall 3.3 Boro Glass: Made from high-quality borosilicate 3.3 glass with excellent chemical durability and thermal resistance.

Hose connections: Upper hose connections are for cooling lines while the lower connection is for vacuum. Compatible with 10mm water and 10mm vacuum hose.
