Sterile specimen container featuring a green leak-proof screw cap. It is individually wrapped in a protective plastic pouch and sterilized via ethylene oxide (indicated by "STERILE EO") to prevent environmental contamination.
Common Medical Uses
These containers are universally utilized in clinics, hospitals, and diagnostic labs to collect and transport biological samples:
- Urine Samples: For routine urinalysis, pregnancy tests, drug screenings, or culture and sensitivity tests to identify urinary tract infections (UTIs).
- Stool Samples: For detecting gastrointestinal pathogens, parasites, or occult blood.
- Sputum Samples: For examining respiratory tract secretions to diagnose deep lung infections like tuberculosis.
- Biopsy/Histology Tissue: For preserving small tissue specimens in formaline solution during transport to pathology.
General Sample Collection Instructions
To ensure accurate test results and prevent contamination from outside bacteria or skin flora, standard collection protocols should be followed:
- Hygiene First: Thoroughly wash hands with soap and water before opening the package.
- Maintain Sterility: Open the outer plastic pouch only when ready to collect the sample. Unscrew the green lid and place it face-down on a clean surface. Do not touch the inside of the cup or the inner lid.
- Mid-Stream Catch (for Urine): Cleanse the genital area first. Pass a small amount of urine into the toilet first, then place the cup under the stream without stopping to collect the middle portion.
- Secure and Label: Screw the green cap back on tightly to avoid leakage. Neatly fill out the label on the side of the container with the full name, identification details, date, and exact time of collection.
- Prompt Delivery: Return the specimen to the healthcare provider or lab as soon as possible (ideally within 1–2 hours). If delivery is delayed, refrigerate the container if advised by medical staff.
