This 60ml sterile specimen container is made from polypropylene and has a green leak-proof screw cap. Each one is individually wrapped in a protective plastic pouch and sterilised with ethylene oxide (marked "STERILE EO") to prevent contamination.
Common Medical Uses
These containers are used in clinics, hospitals and diagnostic labs to collect and transport biological samples:
- Urine samples: For routine urinalysis, pregnancy tests, drug screening, or culture and sensitivity tests for urinary tract infections (UTIs).
- Stool samples: For detecting gut pathogens, parasites or hidden (occult) blood.
- Sputum samples: For examining respiratory secretions to diagnose lung infections like tuberculosis.
- Biopsy and histology tissue: For keeping small tissue specimens in formalin during transport to pathology.
General Sample Collection Instructions
For accurate results and to keep outside bacteria or skin flora out of the sample, follow standard collection steps:
- Hygiene first: Wash your hands well with soap and water before opening the pack.
- Keep it sterile: Only open the outer pouch when you're ready to collect the sample. Unscrew the green lid and place it face down on a clean surface. Don't touch the inside of the cup or lid.
- Mid-stream catch (urine): Clean the genital area first. Pass a little urine into the toilet, then hold the cup in the stream without stopping to collect the middle part.
- Close and label: Screw the green cap on tightly so it doesn't leak. Fill in the label on the side with the full name, ID details, date and exact time of collection.
- Deliver promptly: Take the specimen to the healthcare provider or lab as soon as possible (ideally within 1 to 2 hours). If there's a delay, refrigerate it if medical staff advise you to.
